Following the warm response to last year’s exhibition,
we are pleased to welcome back Hiromi Urushiyama, a woodworker based in Takayama, for another exhibition this year.
Building on the previous theme, “Tools for Everyday Living,”
this exhibition turns its focus toward objects that feel even closer to us—pieces that quietly become part of our everyday tables and spaces.
Trays, greenwood cups, rimmed plates, and more.
These works are made not only to be used as tableware, but also to be displayed, arranged, and enjoyed as part of a space—objects that naturally invite us to reach for them in daily life.
For this exhibition, many of the works have been created using spalted wood, known for the distinctive patterns formed naturally within the timber.
Created through the activity of fungi, these markings are never exactly alike. Each piece carries its own expression, with a beauty that feels almost as though nature itself had painted it.
Urushiyama carefully embraces the individual character of each piece of wood, shaping it into objects with a quiet and gentle presence.
There is a warmth that can only be felt when held in the hand, and a sense of ease in the way each piece naturally settles into everyday life.
Objects that quietly accompany us at the table and throughout our spaces, bringing a subtle richness to daily living.
We invite you to visit Ousia, hold the works in your hands, and experience them for yourself.
